In 2021, a team of Year 5 girls from Holy Spirit were selected as finalists in the Emerging Engineers competition held at UWA.
With a prize pool that includes unique experiences hosted by the University of Western Australia and engineering industry partners, this competition was an opportunity for girls to try their hand at solving a real life problem. Students were invited to pitch their solution to ‘microplastics in urban waterways‘.
A very big congratulations to Elizabeth, Maggie, Amber and Alexa for coming second place. They were against some very tough competition but won the judges over with their knowledge and delivery of the micro mag which used magnetic liquid to attract microplastics. To compete against girls in high school and not only stand their own but shine, is testament to their drive and determination.
